The story behind Marmara Moon
The song was entirely inspired by some photos of the Marmara Sea (Turkey) taken at night in front of a good friend's home, with the lights and the boats and the moonshine over the water.
It is instrumental, has no words but speaks out very clearly all the same. The strong eastern mediterranean feel and rhythm make it subtle and majestic at the same time, with its main "sound" playing the lead melody. A bassoon shortly follows, copying the exact same tune of the first instrument but slightly later, like an echo. The two instruments, cradled by softer sounds all around them, continue 'talking' to each other for a while.
Then... a third instrument, a flute, fits in between the first and the bassoon, so here are three 'players', all slightly offset of each other, reciprocally echoing to the end in an elegantly poised, almost mathematical discussion.
The lead sound is the singing moon, the notes the moonlight rays. The bassoon, much deeper, is the sea with the reflected light over the water, echoing the moon wave after wave.
And the third instrument?
The third instrument, the flute, is the stunning reflection of the moonlight and of the shimmering waters in the eyes of the man who stops to watch that immense, harmonical beauty in a suspended, timeless moment: the man who took the above photograph.
To him, all our instruments celebrate their gratitude and so do we, for sparking Marmara Moon into life.
