released 4 November '22 art by Around The King lyrics by Around The King In the Chichewa language Mbwea Sulele Mbwayo means "Don't let the dog go". The lyrics of the song describe the way a woman does her best to teach a little song that hopefully will ring in her son's ears forevermore. That tune repeats three simple words the meaning of which has nothing to do with a dog as such but has a lot to do with not letting the dark side of a person's nature ever be in command of thoughts and actions. In many traditions the word dog is a metaphor to depict such obscure instincts that, if allowed per choice, can prevail in a person's attitude and decisions. LYRICS
She sighed to Someone in the sky
She prayed that he would be so wise She sang holding him in her arms She found a way into his heart She sang Mbwea sulele mbwayo... She thought as time made him a man She saw him travel far inland She had taught him what's right and wrong Her song would follow him along She sang Mbwea sulele mbwayo... He walked on dunes and on the sands He knew his life was in his hands He recalled that gentle chanting voice Assured he always had a choice He sang Mbwea sulele mbwayo... |
